Teen space at the library

The library that I work for is going to put in a teen area.  This is taking a considerable amount of time, money, space, resources, etc.  Right now it seems that the majority of the teens that visit the library either are serious students looking for a quiet study room or kids from the nearby skatepark who just want to use the bathroom.  Will the new teen space draw in other teens?  Will the studious kids and the skateboarders hang out together in the teen space?

For those of you out there who have had or seen successful teen spaces at the library, what worked and what didn’t?

We aren’t the most teen-oriented place right now.   I am just so curious where this will take us.  I hope it turns out to be fabulous.
